JANE FONDA SAYS CLIMATE CHANGE IS BECAUSE OF RACISM I"m putting this story near the top because it's a perfect example of when something becomes THE BOOGEYMAN and therefore is to blame for all the world's ills. Fonda was talking about her political activism on The Kelly Clarkson Show when she said this:
“Where would they put the poison and the pollution?” Fonda continued. “They’re not gonna put it in Bel Air. They’ve got to find some place where poor people or indigenous people or people of color are living. Put it there. They can’t fight back. And that’s why a big part of the climate movement now has to do with climate justice.”
I understand what she's doing here, but she's conflating pollution with climate change, which isn't at all accurate. It's along the same lines as this column which says the five black officers in Memphis beating a black man is because of systemic racism. Everything isn't racism and white supremacy and when you try to make it that way, you risk missing the real reasons things happen and how they should be addressed. Fonda is right in that poor communities often find themselves living with pollution that others don't, but where I'm from they are poor white people too. She's on the right track that those people don't have the resources or organization to fight, but she's got the wrong reason because of her tunnel vision. It's poverty, not race that makes these determinations.
TELL CALIFORNIA TO GO POUND SAND THEN Five states which draw water from the Colorado River Basin have submitted their plans to reduce usage from the river as required by federal regulators. SOME WILDFIRE MITIGATION BILLS ARE IN THE LEGISLATURE And one of them will go a long way towards shoring up our aging workforce and attracting more young people to the field of forestry. What is missing is more money for wildfire mitigation programs like controlled burns and forest clearing of dead wood, but I think some of that was addressed last year. Read more here.

WOMEN WILL BE DENIED TUBAL LIGATIONS IN DURANGO And this is a big deal because a tubal ligation,which women get when they are done having children and want no more, is invasive surgery. Whereas a vasectomy is one little snip, this requires an incision and quite a bit of poking around so women will often schedule it while they are having a c-section to avoid the re opening of their bellies. That can't happen in Durango now, as the Catholic owned hospital doesn't believe in birth control. Though I support religious objections to abortion, which takes a human life, this isn't that, it's preventing ANY EGG from meeting ANY sperm and creating a baby. If you've been following along, there has been a spotted leopard that got out of its cage after someone intentionally cut the enclosure, then a vulture died under "mysterious circumstances" and now two tamarin monkeys are gone with ANOTHER "intentional cut" was discovered in their enclosure. This is NUTS and I hope they catch whoever is doing this. My bet is it's a crazy animal rights activist trying to set them free. Do you have a guess?

Their SONS are among the hotties they are trying to land. No, they aren't trying to land their sons, but other sons the same age as their sons. This is beyond gross. Let's flip the script and ask the question if the gender roles were reversed, would this be gross? I say yes.

DON'T LIKE THE FAMILY NAME? THEN GIVE BACK THE MONEY This is going to be fun to watch. A Virginia family deeply rooted in the state is demanding that the University of Richmond return the money given to them by a long dead relative, with interest, after the school removed his name from the law school because he owned slaves. In a letter sent to the school, his great-great-grandson said this:
“If suddenly his name is not good enough for the University, then isn’t the proper ethical and indeed virtuous action to return the benefactor’s money with interest? At a 6% compounded interest over 132 years, T.C. Williams gift to the law school alone is now valued at over $51 million, and this does not include many other substantial gifts from my family to the University....Moreover, is it not a form of fraud to induce money from a benefactor, and then discredit the benefactor after he is long dead? Surely, the Williams family would not have given a penny to the University knowing that the University would later dishonor the family. The ethical and virtuous decision is clear. Return the money.”
He's got a point. If the name isn't good enough than the money shouldn't be either. After making an impassioned case that his relative is being disparaged unfairly, he really let fly at the end of the letter:
“The University itself participated in slavery! Using your Orwellian logic, then shouldn’t the University have to change its name? … Using your T.C. Williams logic, then don’t you have to resign since you preside over a school that participated in slavery,” Smith wrote.
“Since all history has to be erased, perhaps you can eliminate the history department and use the money to buy therapy dogs, cupcakes and cotton candy for all those poor souls triggered by facts. Then again, you could use the money to bolster your Campus Ministry of Truth and just eliminate facts. After all, facts are bad, they make snowflakes cry.”
YOU CAN JAYWALK YOUR HEART OUT IN DENVER NOW Because the City Council just decriminalized it. Though jaywalking laws are annoying, they are designed to prevent pedestrian deaths so it will be interesting to see if this makes any difference in that respect.
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS REFUSE TO LEAVE A MANHATTAN HOTEL FOR A SHELTER And I find this wildly amusing. New York is straining under the influx of illegal immigrants seeking asylum and they've been scrambling to make sure everyone has a place to live. They have been housing single migrants in a hotel in Hell's Kitchen, but need the hotel for families instead so they are trying to ship the migrants to a new shelter in Brooklyn. I say trying, because the migrants are refusing to go. Immigrant activists are helping them seem like the most ungrateful pieces of crap ever by protesting outside the hotel. I say send them all back to where they came from and see if that's better than the hotel. I hate ingrates. Truly hate ingrates.

For the record, the new Minority Leader of the Democrats is Hakeem Jeffries, who has a LONG history of denying elections when someone he doesn't like wins. Brennan must have missed that.
