In the end, the Denver Broncos had a chance.
But they came up short in 27-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Broncos 15th consecutive loss to K.C.
Denver trailed 27-24 and forced a punt and took over at their own 26-yard line with 3:53 remaining. Quarterback Russell Wilson was able to move the offense to the Denver 45 before Chris Jones sacked him on fourth down and two with 1:21 to go.
The Broncos turned in a spirited effort in the first game under interim head coach Jerry Rosburg. Denver took a 17-13 lead on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to Alber Okwuegbunam with 6:35 left in the third quarter. Kansas City responded with two straight scored to take a 27-17 lead with 12:36 left in the game.
The Broncos responded with a 12 play, 63-yard drive that Wilson capped with a four-yard touchdown run with 6:14 remaining.
But that is as close as the Broncos would get.
Denver is now 4-12 and will close out the season on Sunday, January 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers at Empower Field at Mile High.
