Tues Blogcast: Adam Frisch (Dem for CD3); KT McFarland; Onion amicus brief

Just One Thing

The thumbnail picture for today's blog is a bunch of onions. It's a really stupid choice that I made only because I didn't think I was safe using a logo from The Onion due to copyright issues, so there are some onions.

Anyway, The Onion has written one of the very best Supreme Court amicus briefs ever as they hope to persuade the Court to take the case of a man who was arrested for making fun of a police department by making a parody Facebook page that looked a lot like the department's page. This is a GREAT example of one of the many abuses of the insane doctrine of qualified immunity which SCOTUS created some years ago even though it has no basis in law of which I am aware.

Anyway, read this and laugh...while understanding that what they're arguing is actually very important.

Today's Guests

Adam Frisch is the Democratic candidate for Colorado's 3rd Congressional District, challenging incumbent Republican Lauren Boebert. I'd like to say before the conversation that I appreciate Adam's accepting the invitation. Both Brittany Pettersen (Dem for CD7) and Yadiro Caraveo (Dem for newly created CD8) did not respond to multiple invitations to join the show. Not sure what they're afraid of, but it says something about their confidence I suppose.

KT McFarland is the former Deputy National Security Adviser and author of the excellent "Revolution: Trump, Washington, and We the People." We'll talk about Ukrainian gains in the war, the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines, ongoing protests in Iran, and more.

Here's KT's website: KT McFarland

Most importantly, we're going to see if there's a resolution to this: (17) KT McFarland on Twitter: "$2000 reward for needlepoint of new Grandson’s Christmas stocking. Lost by UPS in Greensboro on way to Rock Hill, SC. Major family tragedy if UPS lost. Will pay to recover." / Twitter

Maybe we wouldn't have as many Americans feeling this way if government weren't so damn big and doing things it shouldn't be doing?

This is local rather than federal but I think it’s a good example of why we all feel like we’re losing...government simply cannot do much of what it claims to want to do, and it will never be able to.

I'm not saying that everything about this idea is bad...but it's likely to be hurting many of the kids that it's intended to help and of course the "grading for equity" part is nonsense:

Here's one description of "Standards-based Grading" which, on the surface, has some merit but I still don't see how it gets you away from grades.

Today's Videos

I have to say, in all the years of asking guests "sock sock shoe shoe" or "sock shoe sock shoe" and with a fantastically wide range of answers, I never thought of the question "do you tie each shoe as soon as you put it on, or do you put on both shoes and then tie them?" In fact, I'm not absolutely sure of my own answer but I think it's sock, sock, shoe, tie, shoe, tie. I'm going to have to pay attention, though, to verify.
