Mon Blogcast: Mar a Lago raid fallout; GOP Lt Gov candidate; Dumb word game

Just One Thing

OK, I like to start the week off slowly...without jumping in to the very heaviest topics, of which there are quite a few today, so I'd like to being by asking you to participate in a really dumb game that my wife and I engaged in over the weekend.

I had mentioned some weeks ago that there were a lot of voles that were wrecking part of my wife's garden, that I started putting out traps, and that we caught something like 7 of them in 2 days. I called it a "volacaust". Then this weekend, my wife and I started playing the game with as many other silly words as we could create using "vole" such as "what do you call it when you make a vole do something he doesn't want to do?" Answer: invole-untary.

So, here's my challenge. Come up with a question and answer where the answer includes "vole". And email it to me at ross@iheartmedia.com. I'll share the best ones, especially the ones that my wife and I didn't already come up with, on the show. (We probably did about 15.)

And now, on with the heavier stuff...

Today's Guests

Danny Moore is the Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor, running with my friend Heidi Ganahl. Danny's life story is a real version of the American dream. But that doesn't mean he will be given a pass by Dems or the media because politics ain't beanbag. And of course there's almost nothing the left hates more than a successful black conservative. We'll talk politics and policy and life, and I won't avoid the question about his prior statements about the 2020 election but I also won't overly focus on them. The latter headline below is here just to show you how the left and their scribblers in the media have treated Danny.

Danny's business, DeNOVO Solutions provides technologicial solutions for our military and gov't agencies: DeNOVO Solutions (thedenovo.com) He won't be able to tell us much about it since a lot of the work is classified.

Thomas Tighe is the CEO of Direct Relief. He's been on the show twice before talking about specific initiatives he was involved with, most recently delivering aid to refugees from the war in Ukraine. Today's focus is different: the importance of having an emergency preparedness plan, including for people who are often most vulnerable during emergencies, especially those reliant on medication and medical equipment.

Update on Mar a Lago search/raid: I'm going with the WSJ on this because I think they're one of the most truly "fair and balanced" news outlets around: FBI Search of Mar-a-Lago Achieved a DOJ Top Priority: Get the Documents "The department’s criminal probe is expected to last for months as officials assess what documents they got and who took them."

In terms of public opinion, I think much will come down to two things: Just how "classified" or important were the documents (putting aside Trump's likely false claims that he declassified them), and can Trump verify that he was actually complying with gov't efforts to retrieve classified information from his estate (or can the DOJ verify that he wasn't)?

In the meantime, the story of there being top secret and SCI material in what was recovered has caused a few Republicans to tell the breathless "defund the FBI" crowed to slow down. It will also be interesting to see how the story plays out regarding claims that some of what was taken is covered by attorney-client privilege.

Author Salman Rushdie, who had a fatwa put on him by Ayatollah Khomeni in 1989 after publication of The Satanic Verses, is "on the road to recovery" after being stabbed 10 times by a man who was almost certainly trying to act on that fatwa and to claim the Iranian islamofascists' disgusting bounty. (To be precise, the reward for killing Rushdie appears to be offered by an Iranian religious foundation rather than the government itself, though I suspect they are joined at their evil hips.) Author JK Rowling of Harry Potter fame face a threat by someone going by another Middle Eastern-sounding name: Police investigate threat to JK Rowling over Salman Rushdie tweet | JK Rowling | The Guardian It's worth reading that story just to read about Twitter's response. It's more than a little disgusting how they ban people who disagree with the dogma-of-the-moment regarding "science" but allow the leader of Iran to be on the platform and say that a clear threat to someone's life didn't violate their protocols (assuming that part of the story is true.)

The would-be assassin pleaded not guilty. After he is convicted, the punishment should be 10 stab wounds in exactly the same locations that he stabbed Rushdie.

I suppose they have to close the schools because if something happened the school district leadership would be crucified, but I sure hate giving in to this sort of threat, especially when it seems exceptionally likely to have been fended off, if it was even real to begin with (and of course you have to treat them as if they are real.)
