Mon Blogcast: Jack Carr!; Banning in-home gun shops; Where's Snake Pliskin?

Just One Thing

When criminals have no fear of prosecution, this is what happens:

Bronx pedestrian hit by car and then robbed while struggling to survive on NYC street (nypost.com)

There's another video at the end of this blog note that's part of a news broadcast. The reporter notes something not in the original reporting: The criminals came back around a couple of minutes later to try to rob the victim again. These thugs should each have a hand cut off. The driver should have a foot cut off as well. Or just a high-speed lead injection would be acceptable.

And maybe if they can't reach Batman, they can find this guy: (Note, there's some swearing in the video clip.)

Today's Guests

Former Navy Seal Sniper and best-selling author Jack Carr is now a star of the screen too with his almost certainly Emmy-winning performance as a hitman in the mini-series adaptation of his first book "The Terminal List" for Amazon Prime Video. (I may be exaggerating a little but you can see Jack's fine acting in Episode 3 of the series.) The trailer for the series is at the end of this blogcast.

If you enjoy hearing conversations with authors and with former members of the military, especially spec ops folks, you'll love Jack's podcast "Danger Close" where his guests are often people who fit both of those definitions: Danger Close Podcast – Jack Carr (officialjackcarr.com)

I want to have a serious talk with Jack about something that came up in his most recent podcast episode, "The Will To Fight", including discussing how much the will of so many Americans to do anything difficult or even important has been sapped by, well, by what exactly? Bad parenting? Bad schooling? A culture of weakness and lack of principle?

Dave Kerber is a member of the City Council of Greenwood Village and currently serves as Mayor Pro Tem. We're going to talk about the recent episode where some residents of the city suddenly felt very "uncomfortable" about a home-based firearms business located in Greenwood Village...even though it's been operating without any problems, indeed without anybody even noticing, for about five years and operating with all required federal and state licenses. Nevertheless, the City Council decided to ban all future such businesses. Why didn't they stand up against the whiners? Dave will tell us.

The number of homes for sale in the Denver metro area is now back to a more normal level, last seen in May 2019. The question for me is whether the number rises to well above normal and starts putting significant downward pressure on housing prices. I do expect something in that direction...not a crash in Denver prices but a modest pullback, especially if interest rates don't decline to mortgage rates that start with 4 instead of 5 (or higher).

Today's Videos

First, the trailer for "The Terminal List" mini-series on Amazon Prime Video...if you're one of the few people who haven't seen it yet

This is difficult to watch but I think it's worth it as a reminder of what our big cities are becoming under Democratic "leadership"

Ending on a much nicer note: Here's someone's posting of a song from last night's Josh Groban concert at Red Rocks. Boy that dude can sing, and his interactions with the crowd were numerous and meaningful (at least on the surface) and funny. Very impressed...and it was tremendous to hear a singer supported by the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.

OK, one more, of a great duet between Josh Groban and Eleri Ward...video taken from further away so the view isn't as great but the audio quality of the recording is excellent

And one more Eleri Ward video...she really does have a remarkable voice. And this is quite the interesting (and messy) video

OK, a late addition here: Whale breaches and lands on small(ish) boat in Massachusetts.

And I don't have a video of this one, but one more fish in the air: 100-pound sailfish stabs woman, 73, on fishing boat after leaping from water off Florida coast (nbcnews.com)
