Toews' Late Goal Gives Avs 3-2 Win Over Penguins

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Devon Toews was in the right place at the right time.

Toews took a puck off the back boards and put it home past Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry at 15:34 of the third period to give the Avs a 3-2 win Saturday at Ball Arena.

Nathan MacKinnon's shot went wide and Toews was the fortunate recipient of what turned into a terrific pass for the Avalanche.

Toews goal came only 27 seconds after Mike Matheson had scored on Avs goalie Darcy Kuemper to tie the game at two.

Kuemper was outstanding again, making 38 saves. Mikko Rantanen and Nicolas Aube-Kubel also had goals for Colorado.

The Avs are now 28-4-3 at home this season. The 28 wins tie the franchise record for home wins in a season. Colorado also had 28 home wins in 2000-01 and 2017-18.
