The Colorado Rockies locked up another core player on Monday, agreeing to a six-year $70 million contract extension with infielder Ryan McMahon.

The contract covers 2022-2027.

McMahon is coming off his best season in the Big Leagues last year. He set career-highs with 151 games played, a .254 batting average, 86 RBIs and 32 doubles. He hit 23 home runs, one off his career-best.

Defensively, McMahon proved to be valuable at both second base and third base, eventually settling in at third as Nolan Arenado's replacement.

The Rockies selected McMahon in the second round of the 2013 draft out of Mater Dei High School in southern California.

McMahon spoke with reporters at the Rockies Spring Training complex at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale, Arizona on Monday, March 21.
