The start of the 2022 Major League Baseball season is officially delayed and the first two series of the regular season games have been canceled.

Tuesday afternoon, the Major League Baseball Players Association rejected MLB's final proposal on a new collective bargaining agreement.

The two sides leave Jupiter, Florida without a new deal, putting the start of the regular season in peril. Now, they will have to determine the next steps and timetable to resume negotiations.

Originally, MLB set a February 28 deadline to strike an agreement. After 16 hours of talks that lasted until the early hours of Tuesday morning, a new deadline of 5 p.m. eastern time was put forth.

Owners delivered their offer to the union at 4 p.m. ET and the MLB PA player leaders voted to reject it.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred spoke Tuesday afternoon and said the first two series of the regular season games would be canceled.
